What happened last week?
The Bank of Canada raised its interest rate target to 0.5% on the evening of March 2. The central bank will continue its reinvestment phase, keeping its overall holdings of Canadian government bonds on its balance sheet roughly the same until its balance sheet is appropriately reduced in size. This is Canada’s first rate hike since 2018.
