We are seeking a strategic real estate mortgage lending professional to join our lending team.
The successful candidate will lead the Gentai Risk Management Lending team to underwrite commercial and residential financing opportunities across Canada, including BC, Ontario and Alberta.
The successful candidate will lead the syndication and participation of the commercial loans with the business partners including but not limited to sourcing the business partners, structuring the loan, reviewing the underwriting package, presenting the loan to the business partners. He/she will also work with the Operation team for the special loans that are in default or foreclosure until each loan is repaid in full. This pivotal role in the company’s long-term success must have strong analytical, strategic planning and communication skills. Responsibilities:

  • Link long-range vision to support the team’s in-year business goals by establishing priorities and leading the underwriting team in developing people strategies to support sales results;
  • Lead the team to syndicate, structure and negotiate profitable loans with the business partners in accordance with existing business plans, policies and procedures;
  • Lead the team to prepare underwriting, term sheets and commitments and collect due diligence materials including underwriting requirements, pre-funding conditions and prepare, as applicable, loan participation agreements, inter-lender agreement and servicing agreements;
  • Negotiate the terms and conditions of inter-lender agreements and participation agreements and servicing agreements;
  • Organize, manage, train and facilitate the underwriting, collections and loss mitigation of residential, and commercial loans in accordance with company’s policies and procedures;
  • Act as a strong and disciplined risk management leader – ensuring flawless and consistent execution of initiatives;
  • Build and maintain a diverse workforce that mirrors the communities in which we do business. Leverage strong human capital planning to ensure the right people are in the right roles through;
  • Provide with consistent performance management, staff development, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning;
  • Oversee the hiring, training, engagement and development of staff including credit analyst, residential mortgage underwriter and support personnel;
  • Recognize and reinforce team accomplishments by using existing organizational tools and programs as well as by finding new, creative and effective methods of recognition;
  • Manage at a loan level to continually streamline, analyze, anticipate, improve profitability, promote staff cohesion and deliver superb client service related to all lending enterprises;
  • Research proactively to develop, structure and implement new products, processes and procedures while considering and enacting associated regulatory and compliance requirements;
  • Work with the team, monitor, on an ongoing basis, loans for compliance with the terms and conditions of the commitment letter and, in the event of variances, promptly execute corrective action with the oversight and direction of the Principal;
  • Travelling might be required from time to time to attend industry conferences, to visit the business partners for syndication deals or special loans;
  • Maintain a high touch relationship with high impact prospects within the market.

Requirements:

  • University degree in business administration or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of mortgage origination, underwriting, funding, syndication, servicing and monitoring experience in Canada.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas effectively to both individuals and groups;
  • Self-driven; highly motivated and able to take the initiative required to achieve goals and objectives;
  • Accredited Mortgage Professional or courses to satisfy provincial regulatory requirements;
  • Experience with assessing and structuring residential, commercial and residential land loans.
